Schwarzenegger had previously spent time doing charity work. He and his True Lies co-star Tom Arnold handed out turkeys at the Hollenbeck Youth Center. Volunteers handed out more than 1,000 frozen turkeys, tortillas and other products to local residents who had started lining up at 2 a.m.
Schwarzenegger has been attending the annual event for four decades. “I had a great time,” he said. “It made me so happy that I’ve been doing it every year since.”
The Austrian native recalled his first Thanksgiving in the US and explained that he had never felt such a strong sense of community. “When I came to the US in 1968, I didn’t even know what Thanksgiving was. My gym buddies came to my house and brought linens, silverware, dishes, food and a radio to celebrate,” he recalled.
