Taylor Swift Quote Named Yale University’s Most Notable of 2024 — And It’s the One You Expect
A Taylor Swift quote has been named Yale University’s most notable of 2024 — and it’s purrfect.
Per The Associated Press, the university released a ranking of significant things said over the year, and Swift, 34, topped the list with her “childless cat lady” quip.
The quote comes from Swift’s September Instagram post when she endorsed Kamala Harris for president, which featured an image of her holding Benjamin, one of her cats. “With love and hope, Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,” she signed off the caption.
The term “childless cat lady” comes from when Vice President-elect J.D. Vance likened Democrats to “a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
The 2021 quote from a Fox News interview with then-host Tucker Carlson resurfaced while on the campaign trail with Pesident-elect Donald Trump. The phrase was then used elsewhere in the pop culture world, including jokes at the Emmy Awards from Selena Gomez and Candice Bergen.
“Please note that the items on this list are not necessarily eloquent or admirable quotations, rather they have been picked because they are famous or important or particularly revealing of the spirit of our times,” Fred Shapiro, an associate director at the Yale Law Library and the list’s curator said of the ranking, per the AP.
This superlative comes days after Swift was ranked as the top artist on streamers Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. Billboard also ranked her No. 2 in their list of the greatest pop stars of the 21st century, only coming behind Beyoncé.
Swift is currently wrapping up her record-breaking Eras Tour, which kicked off in March 2023. She will play her final show in Vancouver on Sunday, Dec. 8.
