Statistics Show Cristiano Ronaldo and MrBeast Failed to “Break the Internet” – The Portuguese Soccer Star’s Expectations When Teaming Up with the “King of YouTube”
In mid-November, Ronaldo teased fans by promising that his next guest on his YouTube channel would “break the internet.” Naturally, many assumed it would be a historic collaboration with Lionel Messi.
However, the special guest turned out to be MrBeast instead, the world’s most-followed YouTuber with 331 million subscribers.
Awkward moments
In the 14-minute video titled I Meet MrBeast to Break the Internet , the duo delved into a variety of topics, including career, personal milestones, and social media dominance.
MrBeast opened the conversation by asking Ronaldo’s thoughts on starting his YouTube channel, then mentioned the possibility that the football icon would one day share the field with his son.
Ronaldo replied: “It’s great to see LeBron (PV – basketball player LeBron James) do that! As for me, we’ll wait and see. My son is only 14 years old, but maybe when he’s older, he’ll join me on the field. I’ll play as long as I can.”

The exchange had a few awkward moments, as MrBeast showed Ronaldo his extreme challenges like burying himself alive for a week and being held in solitary confinement for seven days.
Ronaldo responded: “Oh my god, it’s crazy! I’m just trying to focus on playing football.”
The conversation took a humorous turn when MrBeast joked: “Cristiano, you’re almost 40 – you’re going to die.” The football legend laughed and replied: “I want to keep playing for as long as possible. I want to be like LeBron James.”
One of the most awkward topics arose when MrBeast asked if Ronaldo ever flew commercial.
Ronaldo admitted: “I haven’t flown commercially for years. I can’t imagine the chaos if I did.” MrBeast joked: “Oh, I’d pay to see that! Imagine Ronaldo flying commercially with glasses on. The whole plane would turn into a photo booth!”
Viewers commented that Ronaldo and MrBeast’s conversation was disjointed and awkward. These two superstars from two different worlds seemed to have not found a real connection. Both audiences also had their own opinions. While football fans commented that MrBeast’s “dying” joke was inappropriate, MrBeast’s fans said that the football superstar sometimes did not really pay attention when the “YouTube king” shared.
No record breaking
The collaboration between the football superstar and the “YouTube king” did not meet the expectations of the majority of the audience and did not “break the Internet” as Ronaldo had intended.
The clip garnered a million views within the first 30 minutes. But the growth rate quickly slowed down, reaching just 17 million views after 18 hours—well below the record of 90 million views in 24 hours for the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer.
The football superstar’s collaboration with the “king of YouTube” did not attract as much attention as expected. |
However, the conversation was still peppered with insights into the two stars’ future plans. MrBeast expressed admiration for Ronaldo’s journey and asked about his social media milestones. “How did it feel to hit a billion followers across all social media platforms?” MrBeast asked.
Ronaldo replied: “It feels great, but honestly, it’s not surprising. I know how passionate people are about me and football. It’s been a great journey.”
Fans were quick to share their reactions, some of whom made no attempt to hide their disappointment. “Many fans were expecting Messi. When the reality didn’t match the expectations, the interaction decreased. It’s understandable,” one commenter said.
Others said it felt like watching a boring scripted talk show. In fact, MrBeast and Ronaldo are not good at hosting interviews and conversations.
Another reason why the clip went less viral is said to be the topic of discussion, not going into any specific area. This could stem from the different interests of the two. While Ronaldo may not be too interested in the YouTube lifestyle of a full-time YouTuber, MrBeast admitted that his favorite sport is basketball.
