Sherri Shepherd Reveals Her Beloved Dog Lexi Is ‘Very, Very Sick’ and Will Soon ‘Go to Heaven’
Sherri Shepherd is saying goodbye to her beloved Cane Corso, Lexi.
On the Thursday, Nov. 21 edition of Sherri, the talk show host, 57, announced that her canine’s health has slowly worsened and the dog will soon “go to heaven.”
“If you know me or you have followed me, you’ve all heard me talk about my beloved Cane Corso. She’s an Italian Mastiff, Lexi. And I just found out that she’s very, very sick, and the vet told us that it’s time for Lexi to go to heaven this week, so Jeffrey [her 19-year-old son] and I are coping,” she said.
“Jeffrey, he’s like on the spectrum, but it’s more like Asperger’s [syndrome], so he doesn’t show his emotion, and I told him about Lexi, and he said, ‘Mom, I’m crying on the inside,’ ” continued Shepherd.
The television personality shared that Lexi has been a part of her life for 12 years and came into her son’s life when he was five.
“I know that I gave Lexi a good life, but I’m so thankful for the 12 years of being protected that she’s been in my life, and I’m so comforted, but I’m happy because she truly exemplified the fact that dog spelled backward is God,” she continued.
Shepherd also opened up about some of her most memorable experiences with Lexi.
“I believe that they love you the same way that God loves you unconditionally, and every time I looked at her in her face — she’s very ferocious, and she protected me — I would look at her and I’d go, ‘she could take my face off in 20 seconds,’ and that is when she would lick me, and every time I prayed she would lay across my calves when I would pray,” she said.
Her voice choked up as she ended the segment by saying, “Lexi, you’ve been amazing, and we’re going to miss you a lot, so thank you.”
Over on Instagram, Shepherd also shared a video with photos of her and Lexi and a sweet message.
“When you get to Heaven, give your sister Ashley a big kiss. I love you so much Lexi💔💔 Thank you to everyone for all of your prayers and well wishes for Lexi❤️. Those who knew her knew she was a gentle giant🩸you’d start out terrified of this ferocious 127lb dog but after she licked your face, you were in love with my #furbaby 🥰,” a port of her lengthy caption read.
The post was met with supportive messages from many of her celebrity friends, including Niecy Nash, who wrote, “Friend!!!! 😢😢😢 my favorite baby to be afraid of ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.”
“Ooooooohhhhh friend I am so sorry for your loss,” Taraji P. Henson wrote. “It never feels good when you lose a fur baby. God bless your heart 🧡🧡🧡.”
