Prince Harry attended the New York Times’ Dealbook Summit in New York on Wednesday, where he spoke about his struggles since the death of his mom Princess Diana
Prince Harry opened up about his late mother Princess Diana during a heartfelt speech at the DealBook Summit in New York.
The Duke of Sussex attended the event alone as his wife Meghan Markle showed up to The Paley Center for Media Gala in Los Angeles. Harry spoke with The New York Times journalist Andrew Ross Sorkin at the Summit.
In a refreshingly candid conversation, Harry recounted painful memories following his mother’s tragic death in 1997. The Princess of Wales sadly died following a car accident in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris when Harry was just 12 years old.
He said his feelings of unease started after the fatal accident which killed Diana. “I was fighting myself. When you’re kind of trapped within this bubble it kind of feels like there’s no way out,” Harry said.

Reflecting on the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death, the Duke of Sussex opened up about feeling “helpless” and dealing with “an inner turmoil” from a young age. Elsewhere in the chat, Harry shared his views on various issues, including his stance against banning social media for children despite risks like school bullying and family disputes, highlighting the importance of child safety and protection.
Harry also addressed rumors he is splitting from the Duchess of Sussex. The couple’s last in-person official public appearance together was more than 100 days ago and fans had been worrying it was a sign of trouble.
Host Andrew directly asked Harry about the split speculation. He probed, “I Google Newsed you, and there were people fascinated by everything you’re doing, all the time. They’re fascinated by Meghan is in California right now, and you’re here.”
He added, “Why are you making, doing independent events? Why aren’t you doing them together?” Harry hit back, “Because you invited me, you should have known,” to which he received laughs from the audience.
Harry continued, “Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what? It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls.”
The Duke of Sussex also shut down speculation he would move back to Britain one day with his family. “I very much enjoy living here and bringing my kids up here,” he said about his life in America.
