We’ve already seen Olivia Rodrigo handle a wardrobe malfunction like a pro during the GUTS world tour, and now she’s adding stage malfunctions to the list, too.
During a recent GUTS world tour stop at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, it wasn’t Olivia Rodrigo’s costuming causing the pop star some problems but the stage itself, which resulted in Rodrigo taking a tumble from the stage.
In videos shared by fans, Rogrigo can be seen greeting fans in between songs while making her way through the stage. Failing to see the stage’s trapdoor was open, Rodrigo then tumbles and falls into the small hole, making fans present gasp in unison.
Immediately after the fall, Rodrigo emerges from the hole and laughs off the mishap, reassuring the crowd that she’s not been hurt. “Oh my God. That was fun. I’m OK,” the singer screamed. “Wow, sometimes, there’s just a hole in the stage. That’s alright,” she quipped before getting back into performance mode with a little “Where was I?”
Not content with just flawlessly handling the mishap mid-concert, Rodrigo also took the fall in stride and used it as her chance to jump on one of Tikok’s most viral trends at the moment: The #SubtleForeshadowing challenge, where users intertwine small clips of an unexpected, unfortunate event from the beginning of the video.
Rodrigo has really been killing the TikTok game during the Australian leg of her tour. Not only did she find a way to turn her stage malfunction into a viral opportunity via the #SubtleForeshadowing trend, but she also tried Tim Tams for the first time and got to meet Pesto the Penguin at the SEA LIFE Melbourne Aquarium.
With her Australian stops, Rodrigo is closing off the GUTS world tour chapter for 2024. The singer announced she will be taking a short vacation after wrapping up the tour before getting back on the road in the spring of 2025 with some festival dates across South America.
If you don’t have a ticket for any of the remaining shows, fret not because GUTS will also be landing on Netflix on October 29, 2024, with its very own special that you can rewatch however many times you want — and without stage or wardrobe malfunctions.
