Previously, a nearly 20-second clip was circulated on social media, recording Victoria Kjaer Theilvig standing on top of the Empire State Building in New York (USA) and humming the lyrics to the song Empire State of Mind by Jay Z featuring Alicia Keys.
Accordingly, Empire State of Mind contains sensitive lyrics that are considered to be disparaging to people of color. Immediately, the new Miss Universe received fierce criticism from the audience. The incident caused so much outrage that the audience demanded that the crown of the Danish beauty be stripped.
“I can’t believe I’m witnessing this”, “That crown is going to be taken away”, “So many people are so negative, she’s clearly just smiling”, were some of the audience’s comments about the incident.
In the 73rd Miss Universe finale held in Mexico, Victoria Kjær Theilvig beat 125 other contestants to bring home the first prestigious crown for Denmark. Her journey to compete had many highlights, from her perfect doll-like face to her fluent English, making the 21-year-old girl’s victory even more brilliant.
