Matthew Broderick and Son James to Make Special Guest Appearance on Elsbeth
Matthew Broderick and his son with Sarah Jessica Parker, James Wilkie Broderick, are joining Elsbeth‘s world next year.
CBS announced on Monday, November 25, that the father-son duo will guest star on an episode of the series starring Carrie Preston in 2025. This will be the first time Matthew, 62, and James, 22, will share the screen together.
Matthew will play Lawrence Grey, a man who helps the Manhattan elite get their children into their desired prep schools and colleges despite their shortcomings. The character has the “expertise and connections” to ensure he becomes rich and powerful. However, Lawrence becomes threatened and is “driven to murder.”
James, for his part, will portray Carl who works for Lawrence’s coaching company, Outmatch Educational Consulting. As the top “success trainer,” Carl aids the students to ensure they make it into the Ivy League.
Elsbeth, which is a spinoff series of The Good Wife, follows Preston as the titular character who was previously an attorney who became a de facto detective that aids the NYPD in their investigations. Elsbeth’s quirky and unconventional methods lead her to make unique observations that help solve crimes. The show also stars Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson.
An air date for Matthew and James’ episode has yet to be revealed.
James is the sole son of Matthew and Parker, 59, whom they welcomed in October 2002. The couple also are the proud parents of 15-year-old twin daughters Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell.
Following his famous parents’ footsteps, James is currently studying classics and acting at Brown University. While this is the first time James and his dad will share the screen, this isn’t his first role. James had a minor role in the miniseries Lady in the Lake and is set to appear in the upcoming project Days Ending in Y.
Matthew and James’ upcoming Elsbeth appearance isn’t the only sweet onscreen pairing in the works. Preston’s real-life husband, Michael Emerson, is joining the CBS series in a recurring role starting in December. Emerson will play Judge Milton Crawford, who is a foil to Elsbeth. His character is described as a “haughty, soft-spoken and bespectacled man from an old New England family of public servants who sees his place in the nation’s elite as a birthright.”
Elsbeth premiered in February and has featured an impressive array of A-List guest stars including Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Nathan Lane, Vanessa Williams, Eric McCormack, Laurie Metcalf and more.
