Madonna Shares Photos with All 6 Kids and Her Dad, Reflecting on Recent Family Deaths: ‘Thanksgiving Was Medicine’
Madonna is appreciating family time a little extra this Thanksgiving.
On Monday, Dec. 2, the pop icon, 66, shared a carousel full of family snaps from her Thanksgiving weekend spent with her six kids — sons Lourdes, 27, Rocco, 24, David, 18, and daughters Mercy, 18, and twins Stella and Estere, 12 — as well as her dad Silvio Ciccone. To start her post, the full family can be seen posing together on a farm.
“We are born into families and we create our own,” Madonna begins her emotional caption. “As time goes by I am more and more appreciative of these microcosms of life that Dance around me and teach me lessons every day.”
The singer continues to recall the recent deaths of her brother Christopher in October, as well as her stepmom Joan in September, sharing, “My Family has experienced many losses this year.”
She then shares her admiration for Silvio’s strength throughout each loss: “My father has endured with Dignity,” she writes. “Watching him cry in the cemetery when we buried my brother Christopher -right after he lost his wife. Was a moment I will never forget.”
“Spending time with him and all my children on Thanksgiving was Medicine for the Soul. 🍁🤎,” she sweetly concluded.
Christopher “Chris” Gerard Ciccone died of cancer at 63 on Friday, Oct. 4. He died “peacefully” with husband Ray Thacker by his side, the rep said in a statement, a representative for Christopher confirmed to PEOPLE at the time.
On Tuesday, Sept. 24, Joan Clare Ciccone died at 81 “after a brief encounter with a very aggressive cancer,” according to an online obituary.
“She will be terribly missed by her family and friends whose lives she enriched with her enthusiasm, joy and love,” the obituary read.
