Katie Holmes’ mama bear instincts have been activated.
The actress, 45, doubled down on her decision to slam a false story that claimed ex-husband Tom Cruise was giving their 18-year-old daughter, Suri Cruise, a million-dollar trust fund.
On Sunday, Holmes shared a screenshot from a Daily Mail article that claimed Suri’s inheritance had “kicked in” — and that “mom Katie Holmes has one for her too.”
“Completely false,” she wrote in response. “Daily mail you can stop making stuff up.” In her Instagram caption, she added: “Enough.”
Most commenters supported Holmes’ push back.
“Always rooting for you Katie,” one person wrote. Others apologized to the star and called her an “outstanding mom.”
One commenter in particular, however, got a reply from Holmes.
“Gosh the hardships you guys face. Hey are you worried if you can pay your rent AND eat this month? No? Yea me either ………. I Wish these were my problems,” the critic wrote. “And look I get it, i honestly don’t begrudge you for being famous and working hard for your wealth. I know you work hard and problems are problems no matter who you are. I can only assume, but you are a great mom. And anyone can see that.”
“But I mean, big picture dear,” the person continued. “A story in a rag media outlet, when there are moms in parts of this world who hope their daughters just survive the day. So Just perspective .”
Holmes replied: “I don’t disagree. But in the world today, I don’t want a target on my child’s back. It’s dangerous.”
The “Dawson’s Creek” alum and Cruise tied the knot in November 2006. Holmes went on to file for divorce six years later and claimed in a 2013 deposition that she wanted to split in a bid “to protect Suri from Scientology.”
In April, Page Six reported that Suri and the “Top Gun” actor still have no relationship as the mother-daughter reside in New York City.
Over the summer, Holmes opened up about Suri heading off to college.
“I’m proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I’m really proud of her and I’m happy,” Holmes told Town & Country in August. “I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It’s exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that.”
She joked: “The members of my book club are going to get annoyed hearing from me. I’ll be like, ‘Let’s meet once a week.’ “
In a since-deleted May TikTok video, Suri sported a red Carnegie Mellon University sweater as she and her peers revealed what university they were attending in the fall.
