Rap star Sean Combs (stage name Diddy) is seeking bail before his next trial date. The “rap kingpin” is being held in a prison in New York (USA).
Before his imprisonment, rap star Diddy was a major figure in American entertainment.
“Diddy is very powerful. People are afraid to confront him. Even though he’s behind bars, he’s still very powerful. Diddy is extremely smart, knows a lot of people and helps a lot of people. So a lot of people owe him money and he knows it,” a source told People.
Stars with ties to Diddy, including Justin Bieber, Usher, Beyoncé and Jay-Z, have all been affected by Diddy’s case. However, the artists have remained silent.
Additionally, many powerful figures including artists, executives, and managers in the music industry are said to be very worried for fear of being named in Diddy’s investigation.
On October 10 (US time), Diddy attended a hearing at the Manhattan Federal Court in New York (USA). Currently, the content of the hearing has not been disclosed.
According to CNN, the rap star did not speak in court. Meanwhile, Diddy’s lawyer filed a lawsuit, accusing the government of leaking a video of Diddy assaulting his ex-girlfriend, singer Cassie Ventura, to the US media.
Attorney Damian Williams asserted that the government did not possess the video of Diddy assaulting his girlfriend before CNN released it. In addition, Diddy’s side continued to file a third appeal, asking for the rapper to be released on bail during the trial.
Appearing at Diddy’s trial were Mrs. Janice Combs (Diddy’s mother) and 6/7 of the rapper’s children: Quincy Brown, Justin Combs, Christian “King” Combs, Chance Combs and twins Jessie – D’Lila Combs.
Diddy’s mother was booed as she got out of her car. Before her son’s trial, she posted a denial and criticism of the accusations against her son.
In addition, the crowd gathered outside the courtroom also put pressure on twins Jessie and D’Lila to defend the content of their mother’s shocking memoir.
Previously, Diddy’s children and model Kim Porter denied the information written in the autobiography Kim’s lost words . The book was confirmed by the author to be written from documents in a USB that the late model Kim Porter sent to her friends, denouncing Diddy’s crimes over decades.
“Diddy, dressed in gray prison clothes, entered the courtroom through a side door with a bright smile on his face. He smiled, waved to his son Christian “King” Combs, and blew kisses to other family members. Diddy then turned to hug his lawyers before entering the hearing,” a source told Page Six.
Diddy’s nonchalant and cheerful demeanor during his court appearance sparked outrage and criticism on many forums. Many people said that the rapper showed no remorse despite being investigated for a series of sex crimes.
Diddy was arrested in New York (USA) on September 16. The rap mogul was accused of a series of serious sexual crimes such as prostitution, extortion, and rape.
In just one month, hundreds of people claiming to be victims of Diddy have come forward to accuse and file lawsuits against Diddy. Many of them confirmed that they were sexually abused as minors.
Previously, singer Cassie Ventura – Diddy’s ex-girlfriend – accused and filed a lawsuit against the rapper for “using money and power to cover up evidence of physical and mental abuse”.
According to the indictment released by the US Department of Homeland Security Investigations, Diddy and members of the Combs Enterprise group, including senior supervisors, security officers, family staff and personal assistants, are accused of organizing multiple Freak Offs – gatherings for sex and drug use.
Diddy also controlled his victims in many ways, including physical violence, promises of job opportunities, and threats to cut off financial support. The rapper also used other coercive measures: tracking the victims’ whereabouts and medical records, providing them with addictive substances, etc.
As of October 15, 120 victims have come forward, but Diddy still denies the charges. The rap star offered $50 million in bail but was denied. Diddy’s trial is set to resume on May 5, 2025.
