Ariana Grande Ditches Pink to Pay Homage to Broadway Galinda’s Yellow Costume at the ‘Wicked’ Premiere!
Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo once again paid homage to their Wicked characters in the most fashionable way.
Grande, 31, and Erivo, 37, stepped out in looks that reminded Us of the costumes their Broadway counterparts wore while performing “One Short Day.” The stars wore the gowns while at the movie’s London premiere on Monday, November 18.
Grande, who plays Galinda in the upcoming movie, was a ray of sunshine in a custom butter yellow Ralph Lauren dress featuring a strapless neckline and tulle fabric that perfectly wrapped around her bust and arms. The top of her dress cascaded into a stunning A-line skirt complete with an extra-long train.
The singer accessorized with a diamond necklace and green-tinted sunglasses that would be befitting of any Shiz University student. Her honey blonde hair was parted to the side and styled in a slicked-back updo.
Grande’s frock reminded Us of the yellow dress that Kristin Chenoweth wore during the origianl Broadway production of Wicked while singing “One Short Day.” Her dress featured a fitted bolice and an A-line yellow skirt complete with a subtle pattern. Similarly, she accessorized with green round sunglasses.
Erivo, who plays Elphaba in the movie, also delivered drama in a black Schiaparelli outfit consisting of a velvet top, fingerless gloves and a theatrical headpiece. The pièce de résistance was her fluffy skirt featuring a rose gold beaded embellishment that wrapped around one of her legs. She matched the artistic piece with glittery tights, platform heels and diamond De Beers earrings.
Her all-black look easily resembled the costume Idina Menzel wore on Broadway while starring as Elphaba. For the performance, Menzel, 53, wore a black long-sleeve dress and pointy hat — a.k.a. the Wicked Witch of the West’s signature outfit.
This is hardly the first time Grande and Erivo have slayed a red carpet with character-inspired couture during the Wicked press tour. Earlier this month, at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere, Grande wore a custom Thom Browne pink-and-white gingham dress, reminiscent of the blue-and-white frock Dorothy wore in the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz.
Erivo, meanwhile, stunned in a leather Louis Vuitton cutout green dress. She teamed her look with a finger cape.
