Alexis Ohanian Reveals He Had ‘Half’ His Thyroid Removed in Preventative Surgery: ‘Very Likely to Become Cancerous’
Alexis Ohanian is feeling extra grateful for his health this Thanksgiving.
On Thursday, Nov. 28, the Reddit cofounder, 41, shared on Instagram that he recently underwent preventative surgery after “tracking some suspicious nodules” on his thyroid over the last four years.
“The nodules were getting bigger & the latest biopsy revealed they’d very likely turn cancerous,” wrote Ohanian, who’s married to tennis superstar Serena Williams. “My mom had breast cancer around this age (41) and then ultimately died from brain cancer a decade or so later. I hate cancer.”
Ohanian assured his followers that the surgery “was smooth” — and that he had received a “call this morning” that underscored the importance of being vigilant.
“My now-removed-half-of-thyroid was indeed full of some gnarly nodules that were very likely to become cancerous,” he wrote.
Along with sharing a post-surgery photo of himself in a hospital bed, Ohanian posted two sweet snaps of his daughters, Olympia, 6, and Adira, 1.
“The worst part tbh has been not being able to lift for 2 weeks but big fella will be back at it next week and I took my girls to Disney World this week so life is wonderful,” he wrote. “To my fellow men — make those doctor’s appointments — especially if y’all are dads. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.”
Ohanian and Williams celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary earlier this month, and each shared heartfelt social media posts to mark the milestone.
“7 years has gone so fast… Happy anniversary @alexisohanian. Thank you for being the best dad to our girls @olympiaohanian and @adiraohanian,” Williams, 43, wrote. “Thanks for also making average November day a costume party and making it special. ❤️❣️.”
Celebrating Williams’ role as a mom, Ohanian commented on her post: “❤️ Thank you for blessing me with the two best humans we ever met.”
