Travis Kelce Matches Taylor Swift’s Plaid Style in Game-Day Outfit
Travis Kelce appears to be taking style cues from Taylor Swift, donning his own plaid statement ensemble over the weekend.
Kelce, 35, celebrated the Kansas City Chiefs notching up 10 defeats this NFL season by posting a tribute via Instagram on Sunday, November 24, also revealing that he wore a plaid shirt ahead of the day’s game. The style choice came after fans pointed out last week that Swift, 34, has been wearing a lot of plaid herself recently.
The tight end posted seven photos of himself after the Chiefs beat the Carolina Panthers 30-27 on Sunday, with many showcasing his colorful outfit choice. “Double digit dubs!!” Kelce captioned the post, leading with a snap that showed the game-day outfit clearly.
Pairing his red, white and blue plaid shirt with cream corduroy trousers, a crocheted bucket hat and a Louis Vuitton bag, Kelce added further images, including full-length and close-up snaps of his ensemble.
Additional images showed Kelce running onto the field followed by his teammate Patrick Mahomes and Kelce tapping helmets with fellow Chiefs tight end, Noah Gray.
While the Instagram post initially appeared to mark the Chiefs’ major milestone in becoming the first team in the American Football Conference to reach double digits this season, fans were quick to point out that all-too-telling plaid wardrobe choice.
“PLAID?! Are you kidding me Travis,” wrote one fan in the post’s comment section, while another penned, “Plaid …. We see you Tay.”
Fan have theorized that after Swift showed up to the MTV Video Music Awards in September wearing a plaid, yellow, zip-up bustier top, and opted for a a pleated plaid miniskirt later that month, before wearing a plaid, off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood dress the following month, Swift may be teasing a significant musical unveiling.
Various theories span the release of a “So High School” music video, a song off The Tortured Poets Department that is believed to be about Kelce, as well as the release of a lost album called Karma that Swift worked on and scrapped between 2014’s 1989 and 2017’s Reputation.
Additional fan thoughts include the possibility of an upcoming rock album, suggesting that Swift is heading into her ‘90s era, the possibility of a new “Evermore” music video, and also the announcement of the release of Reputation (Taylor’s Version), which has been anticipated for several years.
Whatever the situation may be, there’s no doubt that Kelce and Swift are totally in sync at the moment.
Fans were also quick to pick up on Swift seemingly mimicking Kelce’s signature moves while performing her third Eras Tour concert in Toronto on November 17. During an improvised section of “Midnight Rain,” Swift rotated her arms around each other before sticking her thumbs out to the side, reminiscent of a “Born to Hand Jive” from Grease.
The move was demonstrated by Kelce when he attended Swift’s June concert in London.
