Chynna Phillips & Billy Baldwin: Living Separately Creates an ‘Unspoken Energy’ Between Them
Chynna Phillips Baldwin and Billy Baldwin are opening up about the impact that their unconventional living arrangement is having on their relationship.
The Wilson Phillips singer, 56, explained that the new setup has created an âunspoken energyâ between her and her actor husband, 61, in her latest California Preachinâ YouTube video released on Sunday, Nov. 17. In the video titled “We Went to the Dark Side,” the married couple of nearly 30 years discuss the matter while driving in the car.
âSo we do have therapy today,â Chynna says to her husband, whoâs in the driverâs seat. âOne thing I would like to cover is, you know, obviously thereâs been this unspoken energy between us. What would you call it?â
With a slight smirk, Billy responds, âI would call it roommates, basically. I would call it coexisting.â
Chynna previously revealed that she and her husband reached an agreement to live in separate homes in different towns in an effort to strengthen their relationship.
Chynna continues, âI think when I told Billy, âhey, how would you feel about not living under the same roof every single day, 24/7…ââ
âI thought that was a really good idea,â Billy chimes in, adding that he initially thought the setup was going to feel ânaturalâ since they already experienced periods of time when they wouldnât see each other because of work obligations. âYouâre going to go do a show, Iâm going to go to Europe and speak at a festival. Like, we have these built-in gaps where weâre not together. Itâs going to happen naturally, we probably donât even have to schedule it.â
He adds that he first thought their agreement was for them be together for three weeks at a time and then be apart for one week. However, he notes, he was surprised when his wife said she wanted the opposite.
âThatâs not what I meant,â Chynna clarifies. âThat was irresponsible for me to say. What I meant was, you know, we donât have a rigid schedule of when and when we donât see one another, but we have an understanding that we spend the majority of the month apart but we intersperse that with conjugal dates and pickle ball and therapy and movies.â
The pair then start bickering when Billy brings up how he feels like she’s rejected his physical affection “numerous times,” but Chynna says she wasn’t aware she was doing that.
When the disagreement ends, the two start laughing and Chynna says, “We’re doomed. We’re so doomed.”
Chynna first explained the rules of their living situation â including how sheâs staying in Santa Barbara while Billy lives in Beverly Hills â during a California Preachinâ episode on Sunday, Nov. 3.
âBilly and I are sort of in this new kind of arrangement that is actually really working for me. I donât know if itâs working for Billster, but Iâm really happy with what weâre doing,â she said. âBasically, itâs totally unstructured . . . let me explain.â
âI said to Billy, âLook, why don’t we just do a little test run to see what it feels like to have me in Santa Barbara, you in Beverly Hills, and then we flip-flop. Then in between, we have date nights together, we have therapy, we have dinner with the children and we go to the beach or the museum.â
The pair, who married in 1995, share three adult children together: daughters Jameson, 24, and Brooke, 19, and son Vance, 22.
