MGK to Join The Voice as Gwen Stefani’s Playoff Advisor!
mgk is making his mark on The Voice!
On Tuesday, Nov. 19, the singer-songwriter will join Gwen Stefani on the singing competition show as her playoff advisor, PEOPLE can exclusively reveal.
In a clip shared exclusively with PEOPLE from the episode, the “Lonely Road” singer (also known as Machine Gun Kelly) shares some sound advice with contestant Jake Tankersley during his rehearsals.
“You have a good smile so maybe crack a smile on that and let people know they can be close to you,” mgk, 34, says. “When you have any moment when there is no lyrics though, because there is so many words, step away from the mic and play your guitar.”
“It’s all about the feel. You have a wife and kids, they bring the color to your life so it’s all feel,” he adds.

The “Sun to Me” singer then asked Tankersley who he looked up to in the country genre “image-wise.” Tankersley immediately said Johnny Cash.
“Of course, bro. I think you should come like that on the show. Do like Johnny Cash. That’s the first thing I thought,” he says.
In an exclusive first-look at the on-the-fly interviews from Tuesday’s episode, Stefani opened up about working with the rocker.
“He has such an identity as far as self-style and the way he puts himself out there with his artistry and creativity. He’s bold,” she said. “He sees things from a fresh perspective.”
Meanwhile, mgk said he’s been “so eager” to work with Stefani, 55, in “any capacity.”
As for the show, mgk loved that he got to work with the contestants. Their dreams and drive remind him of the early days in his career.
“Dream chasing is so cool. This is a great platform for people to come and present their talent,” he said. “And if anything, if they don’t walk away with the win, they still walk away with knowledge which is also a win.”
“I still feel like so much of a student, so it’s hard to be in this role, but hopefully I added something,” he later added.
In 2017, mgk took The Voice stage for the first time with X Ambassadors and Bebe Rexha to perform their song “Home.”
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC at 8 p.m. ET, and is available to stream on Peacock the next day.
