The Kansas City Chiefs legend Patrick Mahomes should be the king of the city according to Chiefs fans. While the young all-time player is still in the middle of his football career he has made some incredible business moves in other sports, and now he is eyeing a major move with the WNBA.

Back in 2020, Mahomes began his ownership of different sports teams by joining the ownership group for the Kansas City Royals, but he did not stop there.
“I am thankful for the chance to join my wife as part of the Kansas City Current’s ownership team,” Mahomes said. “Brittany and the Longs have done an incredible job building a world-class organization. I am excited to join another championship-caliber club as it continues to make history.”
Mahomes has both an MLB and NWSL team in his sports ownership portfolio, and he is eyeing to add to that with a new WNBA team in Kansas City. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the WNBA and Mahomes have met together to talk about the potential of bringing a WNBA team to Kansas City.
“As WNBA expansion continues, ownership of the NWSL’s KC Current — which includes Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany — has met with the WNBA and is in contention to bring the league’s next franchise to Kansas City,” Schefter wrote. “Mahomes also co-owns the KC Royals and Sporting KC.”
Mahomes would become the second NFL player to own a WNBA team as Tom Brady is currently the minority owner of the Las Vegas Aces.

The WNBA would need to consider the city for an expansion team, and they very well may as the Chiefs have brought tons of popularity to the city. With Mahomes there, it becomes a major sports city as he is the face of the NFL. At the moment, the WNBA is only adding a team in Golden State, and there are plans to add Toronto and Portland as well, but not Kansas City just yet.
Kansas City fans love this piece of news and are hoping that Mahomes can make it happen for the city. The city’s fans are ready to crown Mahomes the King of Kansas City sports:
“If Mahomes wants it, it will come,” one fan said.
“If this man brings the WNBA home… and that leads to an NBA team… just make him King of the city,” said another fan.
“Kansas City Loves Women’s Sports. This is a no brainer,” one fan added.
“This man is setting up his family for generations. Love to see it,” another fan said.
“Mahomes is making a very very strong case towards being the most influential sports figure in KC history,” one fan claimed.
“he is so amazing he’s done so much for our city like I know y’all joke about him but you guys really have no idea. Kansas City is not the same it was even 10 years ago and he’s brought so many people together it’s beautiful to see,” said another fan.
