G-Dragon Takes Center Stage with “Power” MV Release: His First New Music in 7 Years
On the afternoon of October 31, Sportsworldi reported that G-Dragon officially returned after 7 years with the single Power . This is the first solo song released by G-Dragon since the EP Kwon Ji-yong released in 2017. In recent days, G-Dragon’s new song has continuously received attention. Audiences have been waiting for the rapper’s return to the point that his name has continuously been in the top searches on Korean music sites.
Power is a hip hop song with catchy rap and an addictive beat. G-Dragon said about the song: “It’s a song about power. For me, power is music. During my hiatus, I felt the power of the media was so great. So the song contains satire about the power of the media in many different meanings.”
After about 1 hour of release, the song is sweeping Korean music charts.

G-Dragon has received positive reviews for releasing songs that reflect the dark side of society. The new song Power is no exception. The song not only shows the confidence and pride of a top superstar but also impresses with its witty yet sharp and sarcastic lyrics. G-Dragon strongly declares that he is a rare commodity of the 2nd generation of Kpop, the “masterpiece of the century” or “where I stop is where I am hot”. Meanwhile, the MV is made in one-take form.
Participating in tvN’s Quiz on the Block broadcast on October 30, G-Dragon shared various stories about his life over the years.
Regarding the numerous rumors since his debut, G-Dragon said, “Behind the glamorous life are situations that are beyond my control. I try to manage as much as I can, but I often feel like I’m being cornered with no way out. I know I should avoid thinking of it as a dead end and imagine there’s a void behind me, but sometimes, I really feel like I’m being cornered. I can’t move forward, and I’m afraid that if my mental state worsens, I might start having dark thoughts. So I force myself to stay calm. I don’t want to repeat the struggles of the past.”
G-Dragon was investigated in the second half of 2023 for suspected drug use, but the police eventually declared him innocent. On December 20, YG confirmed that G-Dragon had officially left the company. According to Sports Seoul , the reason G-Dragon left YG Entertainment was because he was disappointed with the company’s response to the investigation into the rapper’s drug use.
