MMA fighter Guilherme Vasconcelos, the one-time boyfriend of singer Demi Lovato, died earlier this week.
Guilherme Vasconcelos’ uncle and godfather in Brazil posted the sad news on Facebook on October 15. “It is with great sadness that we must say goodbye to our son, Guilherme Vasconcelos, far away from us in the United States,” the announcement read in Portuguese.
The family was devastated by the passing of Guilherme Vasconcelos, his godfather said. He did not reveal the cause of death but hinted that his career as a boxer played a part: “Guilherme Bomba, the Brazilian champion – you pursued your dream of becoming an MMA fighter in the United States, but we could not have imagined that this would take you on a journey of no return, to a place where we would no longer be by your side.”
According to his godfather, Guilherme Vasconcelos planned to return to Brazil to visit relatives this Christmas. Guilherme Vasconcelos’ mother also confirmed the sad news on her personal page and expressed her grief at the loss of her beloved son.
Guilherme Vasconcelos, who goes by Bomba, has competed in 16 MMA tournaments and appeared on season three of the reality TV show The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil . He recently competed in the Jiu Jitsu World League. Bomba regularly posts about his fights and intense training, with his most recent gym video coming out last Thursday. Bomba told fans in late August that he was unable to complete a jiu-jitsu tournament in Las Vegas due to a lower back injury.
The boxer dated pop star Demi Lovato from 2016 to 2017, after the singer split from actor Wilmer Valderrama. The pair were spotted together several times and went public with their relationship on Instagram. They split in May 2017.
Demi Lovato is currently engaged to musician Jutes. She has not yet responded to her ex-boyfriend’s sudden passing.
