Russell Brand has been accused of rape and sexual assault by four women
Actor Russell Brand, Katy Perry’s ex-husband, has been labeled a con man after he advertised the sale of “magic charms” to his followers on social media. It is worth remembering that at the end of last year, accusations of rape and sexual violence made against him by four women between 2006 and 2013 came to light.
The comedian has recently reinvented himself as a sort of far-right Christian influencer and decided to test how far his fans would go for him. Brand has announced the sale of “magic charms” to protect users from Wi-Fi and other “evil energies” found mainly in airports, he says.
According to the actor, for the mere $240 (currently R$1,300), a person will be able to protect themselves from these negative electromagnetic fields. In a dramatic video, he tries to explain the bizarre ad. “As you know, airports are places full of Wi-Fi and all kinds of evil energies,” he said. “Think of all the phones that exist, all the signals, corruptible and corrupting,” he continued.
Brand then holds up the small necklace he is wearing and says, “Luckily I wear this magical amulet that keeps me safe from all the various signs out there.”
Of course, netizens took the opportunity to make fun of the actor with his ad. “I’ll buy anything that protects me from having to see him wearing a low-cut shirt again,” said one. “Swindler,” attacked another. “Have you packed your bags for when the FBI knocks on your door again?” teased the follower.
This last comment alludes to allegations of sexual crimes against Brand. He was the target of accusations of sexual harassment in the early 2000s, but in October last year new allegations came to light in reports by the Sunday Times and the Dispatches programme . The investigations gathered statements from four anonymous women who said they had been victims of rape and emotional abuse by Brand between 2006 and 2013.
One of the alleged abuses occurred just five months after his divorce from Katy Perry. They got engaged in late 2009 and married in October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony. In December 2011, the comedian announced that the relationship was no longer working, and they finalized their divorce in February 2012.
