Sotheary’s rebuttal caused a stir on beauty forums. Many people disagreed with her use of harsh words to express her opinion. Furthermore, after the press conference, Sotheary and the national director of Miss Grand Cambodia went to eat quail eggs and peanuts together, sharing happy pictures of the meal and captioning it as delicious, which was considered an unnecessary “tit for tat” action.
Earlier, on October 7, upon landing from Cambodia to Thailand, Malin Sae-lim burst into tears, saying that Miss Grand contestants were only served boiled beans, quail eggs, and balut. Malin said she was shocked and scared when she saw the skewers of balut eggs that had been peeled.
The beauty’s interview answer quickly spread on social media. There were comments criticizing Malin for being ignorant and ridiculous for showing panic over a familiar dish.

Miss Grand International 2024 has not yet reached its halfway point, but controversy surrounds it every day. Mr. Nawat and the Cambodian organizers are constantly fighting each other. While the president of Miss Grand said that the Miss Grand Cambodia organization lacked professionalism and that the facilities did not meet the requirements, the Cambodian side demanded that Mr. Nawat take responsibility for the unplanned events, especially the party on the boat that caused a stir in public opinion.
The competition now has only 72 contestants left. After the Grand Voice round, the contestants are preparing to enter other sub-rounds. The final round is scheduled to take place on October 25.
