Madonna Pays Tribute to Her Brother Christopher Ciccone: ‘There Will Never Be Anyone Like Him

Madonna Mourns the Loss of Her Younger Brother Christopher Ciccone

Madonna is grieving the passing of her younger brother, Christopher Ciccone, who died “peacefully” on Friday at the age of 63. This news was confirmed in a statement from his family, shared with CNN by his representative, Brad Taylor.

In a heartfelt tribute posted on Instagram, the superstar reflected on their close bond, describing Christopher as “the closest human to me for so long.” She noted that their relationship was rooted in a mutual understanding of their differences and the challenges they faced from society for not conforming to the norm.

Madonna emphasized the significance of dance in their lives, stating that it symbolically “saved” both of them. She referred to it as the “superglue that held us together” and highlighted how it was the reason they both moved to New York City early in her career. “My brother was right by my side,” she reminisced. “We soared the highest heights together. And floundered in the lowest lows. Somehow, we always found each other again, held hands, and kept dancing.”

Christopher served as Madonna’s creative consultant during her rise to fame, acting as the artistic director for her iconic 1990 Blond Ambition world tour, which was documented in the film “Truth or Dare.” He also choreographed her 1982 music video for “Everybody” and directed Dolly Parton’s 1997 video for “Peace Train.” In 2008, he published his memoir, “Life with My Sister Madonna,” where he candidly discussed their sometimes tumultuous relationship.

Later in life, Christopher pursued careers as an interior and footwear designer. Reflecting on their recent years, Madonna shared, “The last few years have not been easy. We did not speak for some time, but when my brother got sick, we found our way back to each other.”

According to his family, Christopher passed away “surrounded by love” after a battle with cancer. “I’m glad he’s not suffering anymore. There will never be anyone like him. I know he’s dancing somewhere,” Madonna wrote.

Christopher Ciccone is survived by his father, Silvio Ciccone, his siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, and husband, Ray Thacker.
